Devotions

Hull New Theatre Associate Dance Company McNicol Ballet Collective makes a welcome return following its debut in 2021.

Led by Hull-born Artistic Director Andrew McNicol, the company performs a programme of three modern ballets, devoted to the power of music and dance.

Devotions features a brand-new work, debuting in 2023. 'Moonbend' is set to a score by visionary indie pop singer/songwriter Perfume Genius from the album 'Set My Heart on Fire Immediately', and features costumes by British designer Louise Flanagan. By turns earthbound and ethereal, this new work demonstrates the company’s passion for the connection between the movement and music.

The programme will also include 'Of Silence', an exploration of hope and belonging inspired by the music of Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks, with new costumes for 2023. Plus, a newly extended version of 'Bates Beats', an exuberant and energetic work that showcases the virtuosity of the company’s dancers which is set to the music of Mason Bates.
